Almost going ExtinctIn 1889 , there was an estimated count of 1,091 bison. There were about 256 bison in captivity, 200 at Yellowstone National Park, which was designated by the United States Government as a place where bison could be bred. There were about 635 bison running wild.The number of bison in the world, was going down. The bison were on the way to be extinct.

Saving the BisonIn 1903, the United States Government decided to make an attempt to save the bison. With this attempt, the number of bison went up by 918 bison, with 1,753 bison. There were now private reservations for bison to breed, and there were some national parks that we breeding bison at their parks. Since this effort has been made, the number of bison has gone up.
